APE's new ScanDelay USB is a high precision linear translation device that generates a defined linear shift of an optical component.
The heart of the APE optical delay line series ScanDelay is a special linear translation stage that is supplied together with an appropriate control and drive electronics. The linear drive has been designed especially for optical applications. It combines low moving mass with compactness reaching high precision and resolution. It is simply controlled by an electrical signal. Because of the spring bearings the movement is frictionless.
The new control electronics of the ScanDelay USB contains the motor driver including a high-resolution closed-loop position control and a quartz stabilized signal synthesizer. Used in autocorrelators and pump-probe-experiments, the low mass and frictionless design of the device allows for a wide delay range as well as for high resolution and fast scans.
The scanning movement follows a control signal which is either produced by the control and driver unit or by an external source. An analog optical sensor is continously measuring the actual position which is transmitted as an electronic signal.
